I decided to take a course in Art History because I wanted to learn how to interpret art as a historian, and while I am learning about that, I am also learning so much more. I am learning about myself and my own conceptions. The interesting thing about art is that it requires us to reach deep within to our emotional centers to understand the meanings that words are inadequate to convey. However, when we do that not only do we make a connection with the artwork, but we also unearth our only feelings that relate with the piece, which is essentially how the connection is formed.

I know that when people are thinking about giving this is sitting in the back of your minds:

“How will each dollar I can give to aid, or each hour I can devote to campaigning for aid, affect the long-term well-being of other people?”

The reality is the generally and intuitively most people are generous and do feel an obligation to help others, there is just doubt that what we do will actually help, that is, will our investments into other people have a measurable return?

That is the “Donor’s Question” and it is a serious one that deserves an answer because it gets at how confident you can be that what you do will make a difference.

So, here is a list of measurable outcomes:

(1) This will improve my well-being because I am a student and research improves the quality of the education one receives and thus the well-being of the individual is enhanced.

(2) I will be maintaining a blog, so that you will be able to see you what you give hard at work improving the well-being of not only me but others. (Multiplier Effect)

(3) My objective is to evaluate the conditions and circumstances facing the residents of Greece and the migrants/immigrants by conducting interviews, providing the accurate historical context with both political and ethical implications.

a) To make decisions about what “should” be done to help others, there must first be an analysis of what the issues actually are and this research will replace opinions with facts.

b) This research is particularly targeted to answer the questions that surround the social impact, which is oftentimes overlooked by other research methods. And this project will also take advantage of the results of those other methods to set our findings into the context of the larger problems.

c) For laws to address Human Rights to be written and ratified into law, it has to be shown that there is something “wrong” that deserves a sanction, and that is where the ethical analysis comes into play.

(4) The final project of the program is a research paper that synthesizes my analyses of the circumstance that both citizens and migrants are faced with in political, social, cultural, and economic terms.

(5) This results of my research will be presented before leaving Athens to people who can make a difference in the lives of the people there.

(6) When I return, I am going to seek publication with the help of Dr. Taso Lagos, the program director, so that the results of my research will not only help those in Greece, but also in the United States and hopefully the entire planet.

This seems to be a solid list of measurable outcomes that you as a donor can feel confident and and verify as the project commences and concludes.

Does anyone know where I can sell my left testicle at? I hear that they are offering all kinds of money for them. Since I lean a little to the left I think I can part with it.

And I am really trying to put together the funds for this research project.

If you think that this is a path I should not take and at the same time would like to see this research get done, now is your chance to save the lefty…

We Can Do It Together

We Can Do It Together

I know you all have seen the lyrics and heard the song that I have been working on for this #Diaspora and #Apartheid research project.

The purpose is two fold:

(1) To get the message out in a different medium than the tradition essays and articles & (2) to draw attention to fundraiser so that I can afford this project.

I know that you all believe in and support me and the things that I am…

Cowards in the Shadows

Cowards in the Shadows

Desperately entombed in the womb of what’s next

Itching for my last breath

As to a severed limb

I want this life, but I bosom death

A child to my knees

Pray before bead, the hex within, pentagon

Angels befallen forsaking my hell

Whispers on the wind, a witch’s spell

And I weep for the still lit ghost of the past

Latent host of a sunken ship chained to the mast

Pulling me so close to the edge all…

Loving the Thought of You

Loving the Thought of You

loving the thought of you

you who I do not know

loving the struggle

the thorn

the page torn

the heart scorn

loving the message I hear not

the waking moments of what if

the distant echo of your breath

your whisper

my ear

loving the thought of you near

the dream awake

so crisp I smell your hair

so ripe I spell your name

a thousand times in the air

over long breaths

so sweet

that all my cares melt…
